1. How does “Giving the Gift of Education” help students at Mohawk College?

Paying for college is a significant challenge for many Mohawk students. It’s expensive!

Your donation will help students pay for their tuition, books and supplies or lighten the burden of their living expenses. When you contribute to covering these costs, you help our students to focus on their studies by reducing their stress and giving them hope.

2. Where does my donation go?

We’re committed to honour your generosity and ensure the gift you select gets to a student in need. Although it’s unlikely, if we receive more donations than we need for a particular item, we’ll redirect that money to a similar student need or to where it’s needed most. We’ll stay as close as possible to the original intent of your gift.

3. Can I make a donation without giving a gift?

Yes – and thank you! Our catalogue is a great way to make a meaningful gift to an area you care about while helping our students succeed.

4. How did you choose the items in the gift catalogue?

Our students have been telling us they need support beyond tuition, and these items are important to them.

5. Do students need some items more than others?

Every item is equally important. Our students have many different needs for financial support depending on what they’re studying and what their living expenses are. Each gift option in the catalogue has been carefully selected to help make a difference. Every gift can make a difference.

6. What does Mohawk College Foundation do?

Mohawk College Foundation exists to support the needs of Mohawk students. It is a registered charitable organization that works with the college and its partners to raise money to support students to succeed in college and graduate ready to begin their careers. The money the Foundation raises provides direct financial assistance to students through awards, programs and capital projects.

7. Will I receive a tax receipt for my gift catalogue purchase?

Yes! The Mohawk College Foundation is a registered charity. When you buy a gift from our catalogue, gifts of $20 or more will be receipted. Donations made by December 31, 2021 of $20 or more will be receipted no later than February 28, 2022.

9. What is Keith’s Challenge?

Keith McIntyre, Past Mohawk President during 1976-1996, is offering a match challenge for the second time.

Keith will match gifts from grads who served as student leaders from 1976-1996. This includes former leaders with the Students’ Athletics Committee, Students’ Representative Council, Students’ Union Corporation, The Mohawk College Association of Continuing Education Students or Board of Governor’s student representatives. For each academic year, he will match up to $1,000. Therefore if 5 alumni from 1993 donate $200 each, he would match the $1,000; same goes for any other year during his tenure.
